Kiekvienas veiksmas gyvena ne tik tavo suplanuotą, bet ir savo gyvenimą. Net būdamas geriausias strategas, vis tiek nesuplanuosi, kur nuneš menkiausias piršto pakrutinimas. Štai, pavyzdžiui, besirinkdama atvirukus kalėdiniams sveikinimams netikėtai pamačiau į mane įbestus du pažįstamus ragus. Pasirodo, Ugniaus briedis neša Kalėdas ant ragų po visą Lietuvą ant atvirukų. O juk siuvau jį manydama, kad Ugnius „jodinės“, bet jam dažniau tekdavo šluoti grindis.

Regis, blogą laikau tik kalėdiniams reikalams, ypač vienam tokiam reikalui, kodiniu pavadinimu Daivos mainai. Nes kam gi nepatinka gauti dovanų gerokai anksčiau. Nes kam gi nepatinka dovanoti. Nes gera sužinoti naujų dalykų, pavyzdžiui, šįkart sužinojau baisingo gerumo būdą siųsti daiktus. Paštomatas. Įdedi į vieną dėžutę, o kitą dieną – ji jau kito miesto kitoj dėžutėj. Bžž… beveik kaip koks triušis iš skrybėlės. Dar sužinojau, kad šiemet buvau baisingo gerumo, nes mane ištraukė Uupsa ir gavau ojėj kokių dovanų!

It seems I’ve been keeping my blog for the last couple of years only to appear in Christmas season and brag about the gifts I get. Sorry about that! But Daiva’s swap is a thing you can’t miss. Getting gifts is wonderful. Making gifts is wonderful. Learning new stuff is wonderful. This year I learned about a great new (for me) way to send items via mail (seems like magic, works like magic). And I also learned that I was so good this year because Uupsa put me a package of wonder.
Mezgimo zonoj Sonata padavė sunkią dėžę ir nekantraudama išlupau viską tiesiai ant Sonatos palangės, stebint susidomėjusiai aviai ir beždžionei. Ištraukusi mažumėlę susijuokiau, nes mintyse įsivaizdavau dovanotoją, jos mezgančias rankas ir tai, kaip pati klausiau mano Kalėdų draugės kojos dydžio, o sužinousi vos galėjau patikėti, nes man visų kojos atrodo 37 dydžio. Nuspręsta – čia bus mano šalčių ir besmegenių lipdymo pirštinės! Nes po jom kuo puikiausiai dar ir antras pirštines surangysiu. Ačiū! O kepurė – tobulai tobulai, ne tik šildo ausis, bet ir pabrėžia akių spalvą! Matot?

After getting a gift at Mezgimo zona I couldn’t wait any longer, so I teared it open on a windowsill with a sheep and a monkey looking curiously at the content. It made me giggle a little bit as I pictured my fairy’s knitting hands. It’s so difficult for me to imagine anyone having a bigger shoe size than 4. Probably it’s the same for Uupsa and the size of the hands. So I got the perfect mittens for extreme cold and building snowmen – I can perfectly fit another pair of gloves underneath. Thank you! The hat fits perfectly warming my ears and accentuates the color of my eyes! See?
Šitaip šitaip va ir va kaip. Sonata buvo tokia gera, kad nepatingėjo nufotografuot “dienos šviesoj” ir atsiųst nuotraukų. Pernai, atsimenu, buvo taip saulėta, kai fotografavau mainų dovanas. Ech, saule, kur dingai.

Bet nemanykit, kad čia jau visos dovanos. Dovanų gavo ir Morkūnėlis (kokie geri prisiminimai sukilo), ir didysis mano viduje gyvenantis Karlsonas, kuriam reikia uogienių. Kaip sakai, nė lašelio neliko? Ne, dar liko, bet tuoj sudorosiu. O briedis jau vakare žirglios per sausainių tešlą. Ačiū, Uupsa, už šiltus daiktus ir dar šiltesnius jausmus!

But don’t you think those are the only gifts. My little guy also got something and the big sweet-tooth in me got a oh-so-great orange jam. I’m on it, you just wait. The deer is going to roam the cookie dough tonight. And the cookies will go great with the marmalade… if, of course, there is anything left by the evening. Kai užsirašai Kalėdų stebuklams rudens pradžioj, viskas atrodo kažkur labai toli, labai miglota. Paskui užgriūva tūkstantis ir vienas gyvenimiškas reikalas, tikėtas ir netikėtas. O kol tau visa tai vyksta, kažkas kažkur galvoja apie tave tau nežinant. Galvoja kažką gero, megzdamas mazgelį ant siūlo kaip mintį ir yra su tavim. Ir kai vėliau pamatai to galvojimo rezultatą, pasidaro labai šilta. Nes gal iš tiesų šiemet buvau gera ir negali nuvyt egoistiškų minčių, kad gal iš tiesų esi vertas tokios šilumos.

When you sign up for Christmas miracles in the beginning of autumn, everything seems so far away. Then you’re overwhelmed by life’s realities and thousands of surprises, and copious amounts of things that just happen. And when it’s all going on around you, someone is thinking of you somewhere far away without you even knowing it. They are think something good while knotting a French knot like a thought on a string. They are with you. Once you see the result, warm feelings overcome you. Because just maybe you were really good this year. It’s difficult to push away selfish thoughts that maybe you are really worthy of this wonderful warmth someone is sending you.

Todėl ačiū už viską Miadžikai! Tai ypatinga dovana. Ugnius kėsinasi ant pagalvėlės miegot. Jei būtų didesnė, miegočiau ir aš. Ir atsiprašau už tokį lėtą reportažą. Naujuose namuose teko naujai ieškoti pašto. Bet aš jį radau ir milžiniškai džiaugiuosi.

So thank you for everything Magic. It’s such a special gift. Ugnius is telling me he wants to sleep on that pillow. If it were bigger, I would join him. And I’m sorry for such a slow demonstration. I had to find new post in the new home. But I found it and I’m extremelly happy.
Tiesą sakant, Kalėdoms teko pradėti ruoštis jau prieš dvi savaites. Turėjau iškepti kalėdinį keksą. Rytoj jis keliaus į darbą. Taip, taip, ant šaldytuvo, suvyniotas į foliją, jis pragyveno ne taip ir trumpai, bet nuo to tapo tik dar skanesnis. Beje, labai geras būdas tiems, kuriuos Kalėdų išvakarėse užgriūva daugybė darbų. Išsikepi keksą prieš dvi savaites ir nereikia sukti galvos – tiesiog atėjus laikui išvynioji iš folijos ir voila.

I actually started preparing for Christmas two weeks ago. I had to bake this Christmas bundt cake and tomorrow it’s going to work. Yes, it actually stood on my fridge wrapped in foil for quite a while, but it only became better with time. Actually, it’s a great way for all those who have no time right before Christmas. You bake it a couple of weeks in advance and forget it. Once Christmas comes, all is left to do is to unwrap it.
Turiu ne vieną kalėdinį receptą kepinių, kuriuos galima pasiruošt iš anksto, o paskui tik išsivyniot iš folijos. Kaip tik šiais kepiniais ir užsiimsiu kelias ateinančias savaites.
Receptas va štai čia (paspauskit ant nuotraukos, kad pasididintų). Tiesą sakant, kepiau iš pusės porcijos ir kuo puikiausiai užteko vienai formai.
Here’s the English version of the recipe. I actually baked using half of the products and it turned out just fine for my bundt pan.
What you’ll need:
350 g butter or margarine
50 g flour
12 eggs
350 g brown sugar
10 g baking powder
200 g yellow raisins
200 g dark raisins
100 g dried cherries or cranberries
200 g candied orange and lemon peel
200 g various dried fruit
100 g almonds
100 ml rum
15 g ginger spice mix OR
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. ground ginger
a pinch of nutmeg
a pinch of clover
Oil for greasing the pan
How to make it?
Soak your raisins in rum for at least 1-2 hours.
Mix margarine with brown sugar till the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Add baking powder and spices to the flour. Add everything to the margarine and egg mixture.
Add the raisins and the cut-up dried and candied fruit as well as nuts.
Grease the pan and pour the mixture.
Bake in the oven at 160–170 °C for about 2 hours. If you are baking it with half of the products, the baking time is about 1 hour.
